    NEW FILMS AT CED
    -------------------------------------------

New Release of Films on City Farming and Vernacular Values

    City Farming
Duration 16'47" - Produced by CED
City farming is an innovative technology which deals with farming in urban areas and essentially on terraces, balconies and even on the walls of civil constructions.  Dr.R T Doshi has perfected a method of growing fruits and vegetables for domestic consumption, which involves relatively low labour input, organic production methods and very high yields.

    Vernacular Values
Duration 58'18" - produced by CED
Threading through the cross section journeys into the other paradigm in architecture and examines the values and underlying commonsense of the vernacular in shaping our built environment.  In this film the philosopher in R L Kumar, a trained accountant reflects on his attempts to build houses differently with  a passion for the earth and the  people he is working with. This exploration has made Kumar an architect, builder, comrade to his workers and philosopher to some of his NGO friends and chief haranguer to others.

The films were screened at the Besharp Conference on 'Education and Training for a Sustainable Built Environment' between 3rd and 4th October, 2005 in Mumbai.
