River-linking: panel to review alternative proposals
An independent group of experts has been set up by the task force on interlinking rivers to review proposals from various individuals and groups

The task force on interlinking rivers has constituted an independent group of experts to examine alternative proposals from various people to the river-linking plan.

Another group -- the communication core group for mass awareness -- has also been formed with the specific purpose of monitoring news regarding the interlinking project. This group will highlight the benefits and prepare a list of eminent persons who can write on the subject. The vice-president of the task force, V B Patel, will head the group.

The two-member independent group of experts comprises professor emeritus of the All-India Council for Technical Education, P B S Sarma and former IIT professor, Subhash Chander.

The group will examine the soundness of the project’s hydrological and hydraulic aspects, cost-benefit projections and also assess proposals for inclusion in the project.
