Adieu, GeorgeGeorge Ninan has passed away. He will however live on in CED's memory. Ninan gave CED its first premises in 1976 at 19 Waudby Road - a petite 100 sq ft room, inside a hugh compound of the Diocesan Centre. It was like passing out from Nursery to primary school, as for a year before that our documentation was only in files at residences under people's sofa. Thanks to him we set up our first documentation system -- two steel filing cabinets, holding clippings in godrej style vertical folders. We still have journals like EPW, Seminar of those days in our archives in Bangalore and all the books which we were able to put together from friends. Salaam George. We will always remember you fondly as one of the founders of the early christian radical movements in India, and your untiring support to ventures like ours. We also salute you remembering that you in 1978 "let us go" to our own premises in 3 Suleman Chambers, much like parents do when their children get their wings. |
